In today’s session we will learn how to use meditation to help combat negativity in our lives.

Negativity can come from anywhere – the workplace; our loved ones; or even strangers.

The question is how do we deal with this negativity?

Most of us don’t really know how to deal with negativity – either we suffer it, take it personally – or, we pass it on to someone else, which can easily transpire into a vicious cycle.

This is where meditation comes in. How do we transform the negativity that we receive from others into something that is positive?

I will guide you through three main stages throughout this meditation:

– We will become more aware of our feelings: in our body, mind and inner space.

– We will bring awareness to our solar plexus (the manipura chakra), above our navel and below our ribcage. This is the energy centre where you absorb negativity, where you feel hurt and the area that breaks you and your confidence down.

– Then, we will sit in silence for 10-15 minutes.

It is a very simple, three step guided meditation that I will lead you through.

Meditation Steps:

Here is the step-by-step process for this guided meditation:

  1. Close your eyes, sit with your back straight, shoulders down, hands in your lap or on your thighs.
  2. Breath in from the nose, exhale from the nose. Repeat. Then, keep on breathing as naturally and as normally as you always do.
  3. Bring your awareness to your body, and feel the sensations that are in your body. Allow your body and breath to settle. Simply become aware of the fact that you’re sitting here. Your body’s at rest and you are observing the feelings and sensations in your body. Are you feeling hot or cold? At ease or restless? Observe and feel your body, observe every little sensation as your body settles.
  4. Now take your awareness to the solar plexus center, the space above your navel and below your diaphragm.
  5. Imagine there is a white light source coming out of your solar plexus, and bring your awareness to this visualisation. The manipura chakra is releasing a white light which is radiating all around your body. Keep your attention on this visualisation and allow the white light to spread down through the lower half of your body, and then radiating and filling your back and stomach as this white light spreads upwards. Your lungs are filled with light, breathe it in and out. It flows up into your head. Your full body is now radiating white light arising out of your solar plexus. This white light radiates outwards and is spread out into the entire world.
  6. In this moment, forgive yourself, forgive others. Feel the silence, arising out of this moment.
  7. For the next few minutes, simply remain silent and aware. Let everything go for a moment and remain silent, absolutely silent. No more movement, just stay here and let everything be the way that it is.
  8. Allow yourself to settle in this silence, stay in it for some time.
  9. Now become aware of your breath flowing in and out gently, slowly, your body and mind at rest.
  10. In this silent, peaceful state, very gently and slowly open your eyes.

I hope that through this session you will take something back for your lives, for all the negativities that we have to face. Some silence of meditation, some peace which you can bring from these sessions.

Namaste,

Dhyanse
